Apple Talk 01: State of the iPhone, with John Gruber

I'm thrilled to announce a new podcast here on iMore. The reason for it is simple: iMore has grown so much over the last year that we now have an incredible depth of hosting talent on the team. More than one show can contain. At the same time, we've started putting the "MORE" into iMore. That includes the deeper dives by Serenity, Gartenberg, and yours truly, and the funner pop-topics Georgia and now Mikah have always loved.

So, rather than crowd everyone and everything together onto one scattered show, we've split them in two specifically focused shows.

The original iMore show will continue to be all about on the community, with popular segments like Q&A and some new segments we're working hard on and will debut soon. Apple Talk, our new show, will be all about in-depth industry analysis and critique of Apple and related companies.

And it all starts with our debut episode and a look at Apple's iPhone business with special guest Mr. John Gruber of Daring Fireball. Listen along and let us know what you think!

  • Awesome!
  • For those old enough to remember, Apple Talk was a network protocol that was meant for the beginner/novice. It allowed you to connect your Mac to things like a printer or another Mac without a lot of configuring. Just thought a blast from the past would be nice today. Posted via the iMore App for Android
  • Serenity chose the name, and for those very reasons :)
  • I remember high school in the late 90s when a graphics computer lab used AppleTalk/LocalTalk for the computers to be "networked".
  • I am starting to think Rene loves increasing his podcast load on a continual basis. lol Looking forward to it.
  • I listened to the show this morning while out on my power walk. Good listen. Subscribed! :)

  • Instant sub.
  • I loved the segment from this last winter where the crew would share their picks. Favorite accessories, apps, ect.
    Maybe called "Select all"?
  • That'll be part of the current iMore show going forward. :)
  • Rene, please figure a way to get a video feed available again - I prefer to watch my podcasts on Apple TV and have been missing iMore since the video went away. Any chance of video returning? I'd love to watch again!!
  • This show will likely stay audio only but we're looking to bring the current iMore show back to video asap.
  • Thanks for taking the time to respond Rene, and that's very good news that the iMore show will resume video at some point - the more video the better!! Thanks again,
    Jim
  • Gruber's Talk Show last week with Ben Thompson was absolute Gold for explaining the Market's reaction debunking all these myths I've heard time and time again from some of Apple's most defensive fans. Worth a listen to get a rounder picture. If Apple Show can be like this then I'm hooked. Please do try and get Ben Thompson on, Rene. He's one of the very few who understands these things.
  • No video?
  • Tried the first episode, good job!
  • I really miss WATCHING your podcast on my AppleTV & Podcast app. Listening to podcast just doesn't hold my attention. Please video podcast this. PS: I love the way you break things down (I still watch Rene on MacBreak W where he's the best of the hosts).
  • Awesome!!! Can't wait to listen. All queued up! Also glad to see that video is planned to come back to the iMore Show soon.
  • Enjoying the first episode! And very much appreciate the run time. #1 reason I added to subscribe.
  • I agree. Awesome!!!! I hope you will do it in video! This is so sweet!
  • Another good Podcast from your crew
  • Video please
  • Just finish listen to the podcast and it's really good. You guys don't think that other phones getting better and cheaper. I think that has a big impact of sales. Also the price in Canada right now is really bad and a lot people stay away from an iPhone.
