T-Mobile USA to launch Apple products in 2013, likely including the iPhone

Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann just stated in an investors' day meeting that T-Mobile USA will be launching Apple products in 2013, and speculation is heavy that that will include the iPhone.

No details are available yet, but in order to get the iPhone successfully up and running on T-Mobile USA, Apple would have to add support for HSPA on the AWS spectrum, or T-Mobile will need to greatly increase their 3G support on the non-AWS spectrum, or both. T-Mobile has been deploying iPhone-friendly 3G in several markets this year, so it could well be the latter.

And that's just 3G. They still haven't even left the gate when it comes to LTE. T-Mo's merger with MetroPCS could give them the resources they need to begin building out LTE, but Verizon, AT&T, and even Sprint certainly aren't going to make catching up easy.

So, there's a lot of work ahead. But hey, after 5 years and pretty much every other carrier, it's a start, right?

T-Mobile USA to launch Apple products in 2013, likely including the iPhone

It will be interesting to see what they charge and also if they start taking things away like the other carriers did ( unlimited, early upgrades, etc)

couldn't have worded it better. That was one of the first things that i thought of because we all know that once the iphone comes to a carrier it changes it completely.

It's not the same for every carrier. I'm on Sprint. I pay the exact same amount for the exact same services (unlimited text and data) as i did before the iPhone was announced. In fact it wasn't the iPhone coming to Sprint that changed things it was well before that when the HTC Evo came. When the HTC Evo launched they added a $10 Smartphone charge to everyone's bill.

Either way i used to have t-mobile. was pretty happy with it. good for them.

Super excited to see what this will bring. I am planning on leaving sprint soon and T-Mobile was the intended target for their no contract monthly plans with an unlocked iphone. If they publish some sort of affordable deal i may just have to sign up with them rather than buying 2 iphones outright...

I hope this will help their business. I'm not on T-Mobile, but I'd hate to see them fall further behind the other carriers.

Great. One month after I give up on T-mo because they didn't have the iphone (and give up a $99.99 grandfathered family plan) and switch to Sprint now this comes out..... Nice timing!

I don't want to sound like I'm being negative and really hope the iPhone does land on TMO but they said they entered into an agreement with Apple to bring products over. This could mean iPhones and iPads. It could also mean just the iPad. Do I doubt that the iPhone will be on TMO before the 2nd half of 2013 no...just saying that it could mean a number of things. It will give me more of a reason to keep my family plan with them.
