Copy/Paste! MMS! Kevin Rose's Last Minute iPhone 3.0 Rumors

Kevin Rose jumped on Facebook video (login to Facebook required) to basically confirm what he said previously about copy and paste, saying it would be across apps, with cut available as well in those apps that support it (?).

He also confirmed hearing MMS would be enabled from multiple sources, something he said he didn't know previously.

A third, unidentified rumor was mentioned but not elaborated on as Rose said he had conflicting sources.

Hockenberry on Apple Netbook Rumors: How About "Front Row To Go"?

Twitterrific developer Craig Hockenberry has posted an interesting article about where he thinks Apple might be going with those 10" multi-touch panels they're rumored to have bought. Not wanting to cannibalize iPhone or MacBook sales, and wanting to experience yet another iPod Halo effect, he takes a look at the gaps he sees in the current product line up and comes up with "Front Row To Go":

Think of it as a second screen for the current hardware.

iPhone SMASH Puny AT&T Network at SXSW in Austin, TX

What's causing all the commotion down in Austin, Texas right now? Turns out it's not only iPhone news at South by Southwest 2009 (SXSW), but it's everyone using iPhone 3Gs as well! It's SMASHING AT&T's network.

We've joked before that AT&T had basically gone out and strapped rabbit ears on their EDGE antennas and called it 3G, well if that's the case, they're rapidly strapping even more ears on round Austin way right now, according to Business Insider:

iPhone 3.0 Rumor Round Up!

We're just under 24 hours away from when -- we presume -- Phil Schiller and Scott Forstall (and maybe Tim Cook?) will take the stage at Apple HQ and preview iPhone OS 3.0 and the new SDK. We'll be meta-live blogging it, of course, tomorrow at 1pm EDT/10am PDT, so be sure to join us for the TiPb take on things as they unfold. In the meantime, here are the current rumors, broken down by functionality... after the break!

How To: Autofill Your iPhone with Music

How To: Autofill Your iPhone with Music

iTunes 8.1 brought us some snazzy improvements to Party Shuffle iTunes DJ and the iPhone's Remote app. That wasn't the only iPhone-related improvement, however, as Ars Techica notes, there's a new feature that used to be reserved for the iPod Shuffle that you can now use for the iPhone: Autofill.

Autofill essentially lets you just fill up the empty space on your iPhone with some randomly chosen music (you can choose to leave some space open for installing apps and the like later on). As somebody who's not really into constantly creating playlists and managing albums, it's a nice option. A nice option that's squirreled away in a pretty difficult to find place.

After the break, we walk you through the steps (courtesy of the Ars Article) screenshot-by-screenshot.

5 Tiny Tweaks Apple Could Make to Improve the iPhone BEFORE 3.0

5 Tiny Tweaks Apple Could Make to Improve the iPhone BEFORE 3.0

No, we're not talking cut/copy and paste, nor MMS, video recording, or any other of the slew of major feature omissions tech pundits can't go an article without kicking, dead-horse-like. (There must be songs and drinking games about them -- enough already!) We're talking the minor stuff, the small things, the tiny little tweaks Apple could roll out in a 2.2.2 or 2.3 OS update that would make our iPhone experience just that much better and more enjoyable on a day-to-day basis.

Apple has done it before, of course. Double-space to add a period. Double-tap Home to get to favorite phone numbers or the iPod app. Tap Home to slide back to the first/primary/main App screen. Having Apps update in-place rather than shoving them back to the first empty slot.

And they could do it again, perhaps even with minimal effort, and sooner rather than later.

iPhone OS 3.0 will be previewed next tuesday, March 17, but likely won't be delivered to users until June or July. Here's what we'd like to see from Apple in the meantime, after the break...

Around SPE for 15 March, 2009

2

Around SPE for 15 March, 2009

Welcome to Around SPE, where we highlight the big news of the week from around the network in a format that's more than just a list-o-bullets. This week we're putting the spotlight on Android Central, which saw a fairly hefty redesign on Wednesday night. Search, registration, commenting, navigation, the whole shootin' match is all much improved.

We're also proud to announce that Android Central made a donation to Olin College to help students there develop mobile applications (with a special focus on Android, naturally). You can find out more information about the class here, or better yet -- go check out the applications already in development this early in the semester!

In Android news, we caught word that Amazon was selling the Black G1 for a measly $97.99. Then it got even better with Costco offering the G1 for $79.99, a whole $100 off! Why the discounts? Recession? Pressure from the HTC Magic? Finally, the long awaited Cupcake update is supposed to come to Android by April. Paid apps came to the UK Android Market. And we wondered whether the T-Mobile G2 (aka HTC Magic) was going to show up at CTIA.

Now for the roundup of the week's news from our other SPE sites!

iPhone at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2009 Roundup

South by Southwest (SXSW) 2009 is trendy, twitter-filling, and the source of increasingly social iPhone news releases. What's going on this year?

FaceBook connect comes to the iPhone. Sure, they may just have redesigned their home pages to basically become Twitter with invitations to apps you don't want and events on continents you can't attend, but behind the scenes:
