UPDATED: Apple TV (2010) bug lets you watch iTunes rentals for 30 days?

Rent a movie from iTunes on Windows or Mac and stream it to your new Apple TV (2010) and it never starts Hollywood's 24h-48h countdown, which means you have 30 days to enjoy them as much as you want. Here's the steps as MacRumors outlines them:

We've successfully tested this procedure on latest iTunes (thanks to forum user TheBritishBloke), and it works (at least in the short term as the new Apple TV hasn't been out for 30 days):

iPad poised to become 4th largest consumer electronic category?

iPad poised to become 4th largest consumer electronic category?

People are buying iPads so fast it's poised to pass gaming platforms and cell phones to become the 4th largest consumer electronic category according to analysts with Bernstein.

I'm a little confused on how a single device like iPad can be a category, so maybe they mean it will be akin to how iPod is dominant and has come to be synonymous with MP3 player. So for the purpIf that proves to be accurate it will be quite the achievement for a device many predicted would be a flop, much larger companies tried to establish as a product category for decades before, and until competition arrives next year is pretty much carrying the entire form factor on its black glass and aluminum shoulders.

Apple needs and acre of land, farmers need $1.7 million for it

Apple needs and acre of land, farmers need $1.7 million for it

When Apple needed land for their $1 billion dollar data center the farmers who owned it decided they needed $1.7 million to sell. Not bad considering they bought it for $6,000 just 34 years ago.

“They told us to put a price on it and we did,” said Kathy Fulbright, 62, seated on a brown leather sofa in the living room of the home she and her husband built with the proceeds. The 49-acre property boasts a 4,200-square-foot house with a Jacuzzi in the master bathroom, as well as a manmade pond stocked with bass and catfish.

Netflix app for iPhone updated to include video out

The Netflix app for iPhone received a nice little update last night that includes video out support. Yes, this means you are now able to use your iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4 to send any streaming video content available on Netflix directly to your TV.

While jailbreakers have been able to take advantage of this feature for quite some time now, it's nice to finally have it "officially" supported.

If you've tried it out, let us know how it works for you.

iOS apps can be installed on Apple TV, they just can't be launched (yet?)

iOS apps can be installed on Apple TV, they just can't be launched (yet?)

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith has discovered that you can install iOS apps on the new iOS Apple TV, you just can't launch them yet because Apple TV lacks the capacity to do so.

So, not only is the AppleTV set up for installing applications (of UIDeviceFamily 3), but the installation actually works

Of course, adding that capability will no doubt be high on the jailbreak to-do list... if Apple themselves don't do it first. (Fingers crossed).

Google TV cometh [the competition]

Apple just launched the second edition of Apple TV, Microsoft has Media Center, and now it's Google's turn with Google TV. Logitech launches their vision soon, as does Sony, so once again it's Apple's integrated model against Google's de-coupled software, and only consumer choice can win.
