Orange Sound Charge t-shirt will charge your iPhone while you rock [video]

Orange Sound Charge t-shirt will charge your iPhone while you rock [video]

Orange has developed a t-shirt that also doubles as an iPhone charger. The t-shirt which is called the Orange Sound Charge is in a prototype phase at the moment. Extensive testing will be carried out at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The eco charging device uses an existing technology in a revolutionary way; by reversing the use of a product called Piezoelectric film, allowing people to charge their mobile phones whilst enjoying their favourite headline act at Glastonbury. Usually found in modern hi-fi speakers, an A4 panel of the modified film is housed inside a t-shirt which then acts much like an oversized microphone by ‘absorbing’ invisible sound pressure waves. These sound waves are converted via the compression of interlaced quartz crystals into an electrical charge, which is fed into an integral reservoir battery that in turn charges most makes and models of mobile phone. As the ‘device’ is worn, a steady charge is able to be dispensed into the phone via a simple interchangeable lead which fits most handsets.

Orange believe that a sound level of around 80dB (which is roughly the ambient noise level of a busy high street) could produce up to 6 watt hours of power. That should be enough to charge up your iPhone which needs 5 watts. The panel in the t-shirt is removable so unlike most festival attendees, you can wash your t-shirt if you need to! Take a look at the video after the break then let us know what you think in the comments!

Developer Spotlight: Alexander Tsepko of FX Photo Studio

Developer Spotlight: Alexander Tsepko of FX Photo Studio

TiPb's developer spotlights are like DVD/iTunes Extras for the App Store -- a weekly look behind the scenes at the programers and designers that bring you the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps and games you love. This week Rene talks with Alexander Tsepko from MacPhun.

Note: This interview was conducted a few days before WWDC 2011.

What's your name? Alexander Tsepko. Some people call me AT.

What's your company? MacPhun LLC.

Where are you located? USA and Ukraine (Europe). Most of MacPhun people are located in these two countries. But we also have freelancers (developers, beta testers, designers) in some other countries around the world. These people give us great input on what features to include in apps. For example we collected suggestions on what filters to include in FX Photo Studio from all continents and it is absolutely amazing how tastes differ.

What's your website address? www.macphun.com – corporate home page, which is now in the process of remaking, but you can get an idea about what applications we have developed. Also we have www.fxphotostudioapp.com, www.perfectphotoapp.com, www.silentfilmdirector.com and www.cartoonaticapp.com for our most loved apps.

What's your Twitter name? Mostly I use @fxphotostudio where I share news about our photo applications, iPhoneography and all fun things. You can say it is both personal and business; I am not a type of person to keep several accounts for different purposes. Don’t have that much time. Also there is @silentfilmdir, where we tweet about things related to video with iPhone and iPod touch.

What apps do you make? We have a photo processing application FX Photo Studio for iPhone and FX Phone Studio HD for iPad. There is a version for iOS and newly released version for Mac OS, which is called FX Photo Studio PRO. Then we have Silent Film Director for iOS. This app lets you create awesome retro movies. Photo editor for iPhone Perfect Photo and photo editor for iPad PhotoPal. Also fresh and free video app Cartoonatic for shooting animated videos. This is by far my favorite app. I am a big A-HA fan and this app lets you create music video which will look almost like that famous “Take on me” clip. We have developed more apps, but these are the titles which people and us love and use most.

What apps, other than your own, are currently among your favorites? As a photo and video fanboy I really love Instagram for sharing and innovations, QuickPix for speed, Super 8 for style and LensFlare for almost everything about it. Also I am greatly enjoying the app, called SkyView, it lets you see some mind blowing things around you. And I play Infinity Blade quite often: have spent lots of money on in-app purchases, so I am not surprised they are among top grossing apps. Wondering if guys from Chair Entertainment Group ever purchased in-apps in FX Photo Studio☺

iCloud features: Manage associated devices in iTunes

iCloud features: Manage associated devices in iTunes

While Apple boldly cut the cord with iOS 5, moving from iTunes to iCloud, it looks like they're wisely leaving some account management power in the veteran desktop app -- namely the ability to manage iCloud associated devices.

With iOS 5 on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, you can choose to enable automatic downloads -- so any app or iBook (or music in the US) bought on iTunes on Mac or Windows PC, or on any iOS device on your account, is pushed out to every other client on that account. Buy Pages on iPhone, it automatically installs on your iPad as well. With iOS 4.3 and iOS 5, you can also call up a list of previous app (and music in the US) purchases and re-download them.

So seeing exactly which devices are on your account, and being able to remove them if you have to (buh-bye, ex!) is a great feature for iCloud to have, and it makes sense for it to live in iCloud.

Moreover, since you can only change the account any device is registered to once every 90 days (to prevent everyone from logging in to every friends' account and downloading everyone else's content without paying for it), iTunes will also show you how many days you have left until you can switch accounts again.

If you only have one device, it may not be a big deal. If you're managing a family, or your account status is as complicated as your relationships, it may matter to you more.

iOS 5 Features: Unsecured call warning

iOS 5 Features: Unsecured call warning

Not that many of us are Bond, Borne, or Sarah Walker types, but just in case you might be a target for cellular call eavesdropping, [iOS 5](http://www.imore.com/ios/] will now warn you when you're talking over an unsecured network. If you're a high value target, you're probably avoiding even the secure ones, but if you're simply living next to a nosy neighbor with too much time and Radio Shack kit on his or her hands, it could be handy to know when you're vulnerable.

Anyone glad for this warning?

iPad 2 AirPlay mirroring walkthrough [video]

iPad 2 AirPlay mirroring walkthrough [video]

One of the most exciting features of iOS 5 is the ability to mirror the iPad 2 screen on a high definition TV via an Apple TV. When it is enabled, you can see everything that you see on your iPad 2 on the TV, including videos, games, documents etc, all in real time.

Apple ‘n’ Apps has put together an excellent video walkthrough showing how it all works. The video demonstrates the speed at which the data is transferred between the iPad 2 and the Apple TV. It is very very impressive.

Gaming on the iPad 2 will gain a huge boost with the release of iOS 5 and AirPlay mirroring. It will no doubt enable new innovative ways to play games on your TV and iPad 2, at the same time! Take a look at the video after the break. Let us know what you think in the comments!
