Apple releases iOS 4.2.1 (4.3.1) bug fix update for Apple TV

Apple releases iOS 4.2.1 for Apple TV

Apple TV owners, Apple has just released an iOS 4.2.1 (4.3.1) update just for you. So turn on your television, click on over to Software Update, and start your download. It's a bug fix update as far as we can tell, mostly geared towards fixing the screen flicker and color issues some users have been complaining about.

If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad there's nothing for you (yet) so it's interesting to see

(And once again we'll ask Apple to end the insanity of having a 4.2.1 software that's version number 4.3.1 and just settle on the same number as the rest of the iOS family -- pretty please?)

If you notice anything else new or changed, let us know in comments!

[Thanks Anthony!]

I have sony bravia. The problem is the screen goes black.

matty says:

2busy2blog says:

The update is for the software on the AppleTV not any other iOS device.

Mark says:

Does it fix the magenta screen with Philips and Sony HDTV's?

isaac65 says:

Does it fix the broken home sharing with 2011 MacBook Pro's? I hope so!

Couk says:

Why do you keep referring to 4.3.1? They released 4.2 for the apple tv and now they released 4.2.1, for some bug fixes. Why does this make it 4.3.1? You guys need your heads checked...

thunderkeys says:

Because the ipsw filename says 4.3.1

budwizer says:

If you go to the about screen in settings an click the menu button it will show the alternate version number of 4.3.1.

Amgad says:

Just installed it, but it didn't fix youtube search problem(when you try to search for any content with non english letters it gets an error)

Darthur says:

Two iPhone 3GS's (16GB) in house, both freezing, apps closing and scrolling 'stutters' & sticks since upgrade to IOS 4.3.0 last week - one wouldn't even shut down today. Very disappointed, hope IOS 4.3.1 corrects problems.

sangs says:

Not sure how an Apple TV update is going to help you there, but Godspeed anyway.

Jeff says:

Does anyone know what happened to the native Mac non- iTunes to Apple TV feature touted when AirPlay was first introduced? I figured that feature would be refined and pushed out in a Mac and/or Apple TV update by now.

thunderkeys says:

It fixes flickering issues for 480p users. For color correction try settings/audio and video/hdmi mode - setting this to 'RGB High' fixed my pink screen when using a monoprice hdmi switcher.

Jeff says:

Update bricked my Apple TV. Just displays the Apple logo with a pink line above it and a pink box in the corner of the screen...

rslutes says:

I cannot get on Netflix now. I can on my iPad and my iPhone, but not on my Apple TV.

Amgad says:

Me too, any idea why this happen or factory restore would help??

Jeff says:

I finally got mine working again and when I try to access Netflix, it freezes an shuts down my Apple TV. Weird. Apple broke it. I got mine working by doing the restore in iTunes so I don't know what the best option is.

Andrew says:

Having the same problem with Netflix. Kinda too lazy to restore it via itunes...so I think I'll just use the crappy built in Netflix on my Bravia.

SkydiverTilt says:

Netflix broke too...this }%^#%# sucks

Mike says:

My Netflix is toast. No longer working since the update.

Jeff says:

I did another restore via iTunes. It still doesn't work. Don't waste your time with the restores and resets. Apple is going to have to fix this.

Andrew says:

Netflix is working again.

Dood says:

I did the update and my AppleTV is now a delicious potato.

Rene Ritchie says:

Netflix website was down last night as well. Might have been non-Apple TV specific.

zach says:

Netflix not working since the update, everything else seems to be working though.

Todd#IM says:

12 years of Mac only and I must be the only frickin' person in the world that's never had an issue with a Mac update on ANY of my products. Am I just lucky or do other people just make up all of these "issues" that they have with updates?

After reading numerous reviews of treadmills, and after cheking out a number of them at retail stores in person, I chose the Pardigm Treadmill. The best price of ANY place was Amazon. I realize I just happen to live close to a point which made shipping unbelievably fast, but even if it took more than several days it would have been alright and it would have been worth the wait.
