Apple files trademark for iCloud in Europe and takes official ownership of

Apple has applied to the European Trademark Office for the term iCloud and also now taken official ownership of the domain

Apple has filed their trademark under 12 distinct International Classes covering such matters as delivering digital music by telecommunications, electronic storage, online social networking services, multimedia content for a fee or pre-paid subscription, computer software, electronic books and magazines, entertainment, photographic services, business management and advertising services, games, headgear and digital devices/computers.

Looking at the list, it appears that iCloud could be a lot more than just a music locker. Reading between the lines, you could be forgiven for believing that this could be the start of iTunes online. The need to tether your iOS device to a MAC or PC to sync, activate or update could soon be a thing of the past.

The domain has also now officially been taken over by Apple. The previous owner, Xcerion has now been replaced by Apple Inc. Xcerion are rumored to have received around £4.5 million for the domain. Apple has also taken the domain

I'm still concerned with whether or not the "" email addresses are still going to be able to be used. I just had 1000 business cards printed with that email address. And will I still be able to use my iWeb site thru mobile me. I realize there are better alternatives and will prob catch some flack for using this stuff anyway, but I was making sure to get everything out of my subscription...

I'm sure it'll be similar to when they changed to from You will still receive emails even if it's the old address. I can still get emails from mac

Why would you catch flak? I know it has its detractors, but I love MobileMe - and that's all that matters. If you like it, who cares what somebody else thinks?

iCloud (while registered to Apple) is redirected to CloudMe & this domain is owned by Xcerion. Given MobileMe you would think Apple would have sewn that domain up as well.
