Next generation Apple TV 3 spotted in iOS 5 code?

Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac has spotted something interesting deep inside the iOS 5 file system -- code references to a next generation Apple TV 3,1. Given Apple's internal naming conventions, a move the current Apple TV 2,1 to an Apple TV 3,1 should signify a major upgrade, which could lend credence to rumors of a Apple A5 on the horizon, and perhaps even the 1080p video muscle that comes with it.

Another A5-powered, iPhone 4S feature that would be great to see? Siri, Apple's artificially intelligent voice control system.

I wonder if Siri will ever come to Os X Lion, that would be nice.

SSM says:

I'm sure that day will when all Apple products will be Siri powered. Patience.

Kuuma Liima says:

They are and will be battery powered. Siri is just software, it does not power anything.

Andy (Wootish.com) says:

Not sure about this - that would mean Apple TV will require a microphone input (and a powerful one at that considering how far we could be sitting from the TV) to take in the commands.
We still do not know if Siri is going to be a really popular app on the iPhone 4S. If it does take off, then we could probably see Siri on the subsequent version of Apple TV

SSM says:

Siri used to be an app. It is now a feature integrated within iOS 5.
If you want to take a look at where TV is going, take a glimpse at MS Kinect. It uses a pretty slick voice / motion detection system & it's just an add-on to Xbox 360. I'm sure with Apple's hardware prowess they can integrate a microphone in Apple TV some day.
Since I have no insider information, I can't say for certain, but I am confident Siri will permeate all of Apple's devices & applications. It represents the next generation of UI.

RodneyJ725 says:

Would love to see Siri as part of iOS 5, so it runs on iPhone 4, not 4S-only.

Mike S. says:

I'm sure in a few months they would make it available for the iPhone 4. I think it's only for the 4S as a marketing strategy.

Crunch says:

You don't love your kids on a 1080p level?

Cake says:

Lol. I guess you don't have kids yet.

@TheAdobeFlash says:

i would hate to see a5 it would cost more

SSM says:

My guess is that will come next Fall with new content deals.

DiamondDNice says:

these would be really really great if they'd just bring it up to the codec and feature level of the best wdtvs. Sadly these devices are neutered.

Moron says:

u have a mic on ur tv?!?!? who sells that?

iPhone 4s Is The First Smartphone With Bluetooth 4.0 Technology : http://j.mp/n8XLIr

Plazmic Flame says:

Man, if Apple TV played .AVI and .MKV, it would sell like hotcakes and probably be the number one choice for streaming in a home.

Crunch says:

With a little bit of patience and the iOS5 jailbreak will come Siri for iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPod touch (3rd gen and later) and iPad 1 and 2.
