Next generation Apple TV 3 spotted in iOS 5 code?

Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac has spotted something interesting deep inside the iOS 5 file system -- code references to a next generation Apple TV 3,1. Given Apple's internal naming conventions, a move the current Apple TV 2,1 to an Apple TV 3,1 should signify a major upgrade, which could lend credence to rumors of a Apple A5 on the horizon, and perhaps even the 1080p video muscle that comes with it.

Another A5-powered, iPhone 4S feature that would be great to see? Siri, Apple's artificially intelligent voice control system.

Next generation Apple TV 3 spotted in iOS 5 code?

Not sure about this - that would mean Apple TV will require a microphone input (and a powerful one at that considering how far we could be sitting from the TV) to take in the commands.
We still do not know if Siri is going to be a really popular app on the iPhone 4S. If it does take off, then we could probably see Siri on the subsequent version of Apple TV

Siri used to be an app. It is now a feature integrated within iOS 5.
If you want to take a look at where TV is going, take a glimpse at MS Kinect. It uses a pretty slick voice / motion detection system & it's just an add-on to Xbox 360. I'm sure with Apple's hardware prowess they can integrate a microphone in Apple TV some day.
Since I have no insider information, I can't say for certain, but I am confident Siri will permeate all of Apple's devices & applications. It represents the next generation of UI.

I'm sure in a few months they would make it available for the iPhone 4. I think it's only for the 4S as a marketing strategy.

these would be really really great if they'd just bring it up to the codec and feature level of the best wdtvs. Sadly these devices are neutered.

Man, if Apple TV played .AVI and .MKV, it would sell like hotcakes and probably be the number one choice for streaming in a home.

With a little bit of patience and the iOS5 jailbreak will come Siri for iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPod touch (3rd gen and later) and iPad 1 and 2.
