greenpois0n RC 6 jailbreak now available, supports Apple TV untethered

greenpois0n, the Jailbreak that supports iOS 4.2.1 untethered for iPhone, iPod touch, and ipad, has just gone into RC 6 and now also supports Apple TV untethered, and includes nitoTV. If you've been waiting to jailbreak your Apple TV (2010) but tethering was dealbreaker, now's you chance to go grab it and get your Jailbreak on.

According to @pod2g RC 6 fixes emulator issues and can be applied over RC 5 without restoring.

If you want to Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with greenpois0n, we've got your tutorials right here:

And if you want to install XBMC on your Apple TV, we've got that covered for you as well:

Link below. If you give it a try let us know how it works for you and if you need extra help check out our Apple TV Forum and Jailbreak Forum.

I can confirm that running the rc6 on top of rc5 (using Windows install) worked for me on iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1. Everything seems to be working. Haven't seen any improvements yet.

I can't get it to work iPhone 4 4.2.1. Have issues getting dfu mode and when I do the jailbreak fails.... Any ideas ??

Jason says:

Don't release the home button. Hold it until the phone comes back on

paulg1978 says:

Is slide to jailbreak ever going to be an option again? If not I am not dying to do it enough.

Pkang says:

I'm assuming you are talkin about jb for 4.0 with jailbreakme.com? Um maybe in the future but I think it depends on the exploit right?

James says:

@Jason thx for the help but the screen stays black no dfu mode I held the home button an extra 5 min any more ideas ?

Jason says:

Are you sure that your getting it into dfu mode? Dfu mode is a black screen on the iPhone. Looks like it's not on. If it's in there, iTunes will recognize it, and notify you that it detected a phone in recovery mode. Follow the directions and timings in green poison exactly, just don't release the home button. The process on the computer will say it's complete before it is. Your screen should go white, then come up with a ms dos looking screen, or just a black screen with white writing. It will say unable to something, forget wha it is. Your still holding the home Button during this and haven't released it. It will take a few seconds. A bunch of white writing will come down the screen. Eventually it restarts and you will see an apple/skull logo. Thats when you let go of the home button. Home screen comes up go to loader install Cydia your good to go. Shoot over to the forums if you still have issues. Someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you

James says:

Thx for all the help. I finally got it to work, not sure what I did different.

Brian Tufo says:

@David there was an XBMC article. Just search for it on the site.

Hi, I jail broke my iphone 4 4.2.1 last week to try and use frash. Have been getting the same abort food error as most on here. Does this release have any effect on frash ?? or is it pureley down to 4.2.1 not being compatible.
Thanks
MrF

Graeme says:

Why j/b ATV? There are many reasons but the one that sold me: XBMC allows you to browse your network and play any format movie file. You are no longer limited to just mp4 inside iTunes.

james00 says:

Does RC6 fix any of the GP battery drain issues? Cause I'm losing 40% in a couple hours on standby alone.

anthony says:

where is the link for the guide for ATV2? i dont see how you can JB ATV2 if there are no buttons on it and the GP JB is telling you to hold down buttons... Clarification from the community please

Ty says:

The buttons are on the remote.

Finally got the ATV2 to jailbreak.... Now for the good stuff!

mistafuture says:

Hey guys.. I JB my iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 (green poison)... Seemed to have everything go smooth... But when I installed cyida from the loader.. Everytime I try to open Cydia.. My phone re springs? TrIed to JB again using Green poison but same thing... Any help please?

Crunch says:

Alright, it works great! Thank you, Chronic Dev Team once again! :D
Here are a couple of tips, just in case you guys run into problems. You need to use Greenpois0n RC6, which you will have to download first. I had jailbroken my Apple TV 2G with Seas0npass before but just like redsn0w worked for the iDevices, Seas0npass was also a tethered jailbreak affair. I first tried to use GP RC6 right over the already-jailbroken Apple TV, but it looks like it works best on a freshly restored Apple TV, which you will have to do in iTunes. In my case, the Apple TV software downloaded first and then the restore process worked just like any iDevice.
For detailed instructions on how to JB it, the GP software will ask you if you want to JB an Apple TV (as opposed to an iPhone or iPad, etc.), so click "Yes" and instead of instructions for iDevices, you will see the instructions for the Apple TV.
Important note: When the jailbreak says Completed, do NOT disconnect the USB cable from your Apple TV just yet, as the jailbreak will need an additional 45 seconds to finish the process! You will see this warning in the initial pop-up window, but it is probably easily forgotten. Also, you will need a microUSB cable to jailbreak the Apple TV 2. Luckily, I had once lying around from my BlackBerry days. ;-)
Good luck and if you have any questions, please let me know and I'll try to answer them here.

Slympickens82 says:

Worked flawlessly after clean restore in iTunes. Now intotv and xmbc are installed.

Slympickens82 says:

Nitotv and xbmc wow it's like I'm dislexic.

JBC says:

Thanks for the update. I'll be installing this on my iPad tonight!
Sweet!

Ardi says:

Hey, is it save to jailbreak my new iPhone 4. I bought it a week ago.
Does the new GP Rc6 have any issues... like playing songs in itunes??

Mike says:

So if I jalbroke my iPhone4 on rc5 can I just lay over rc6 without any restore or anything? Looking for a definite answer...Thanks!

james00 says:

OKAY SO IT"S OFFICIAL...Greenposi0n is the battery draining problem!
I jailbroke my iPhone 4, restored as new and JB with GP. I tried RC5-2, RC5-4 and RC5-Final...I would charge my battery up to 100% and just leave it over night on standby mode, with NOTHING else running in the background. I'd wake up 8-10 hours later and find my battery depleted by over 40%-50%.
Yesterday I re-jailbroke my phone with Redsn0w and put everything the same way it was when I was using GP...well this morning after leaving the phone on standby for almost 10hours I woke up to a full battery with an 89% charge.
I'd say this is proof enough that GP is the culprit!!

Tom pk says:

After multiple attempts GP doesn't work on my AppleTV2 under osx 10.6.4 on a MacBook Pro. has anyone managed it using a mac or does it only work under windows??

Adam Salazar says:

HELP PLEASE. I got verizon iphone 4 with 4.2.6 and trying to Jailbreak with GreenpoisOn RC 6 and I put the phone in dfu mode then the phone just has white screen and said jailbreak failed. any suggestions?

Elvin says:

So if I install this over RC5, will I lose my apps, or will they still be there and untouched after I install RC6?
