MacBreak Weekly 362: The "S" is for Speculation

Leo's Twit network shows have been a staple of my podcast subscriptions since 2009 when I made the switch from Nokia to Android. I switched to Apple with the iPhone5, falling for iOS and Apple's integrations despite the tide turning heavily against the brand with the majority of tech bloggers. Leo's key shows reflected the popular "Apple are doomed" memes and are now mostly for the approving ears of the Android/Google community. MacBreakWeekly has become a critical look at Apple through the glass of Google. Leo's hosting style for that show has morphed from conversation starter to little more than an on-the-mike troll. The conversations suffer for it.

In this episode, Leo addresses the negative criticism of MBW, explaining his approach as 'reality vs fantasy' Apple journalism. The problem is, MBW no longer provides constructive conversation unless Rene has the floor or Andy realises he's gone on too far with another pro-Google now-what-Apple-must-do tangent.

I'm unsubscribing from MBW, as the silver lining of that show, Rene, can actually be heard covering in-depth all the mobile-topical subjects with excellent guests on his own shows. Rene's Vector is far more information-dense and 'reality' based than MBW.

Can't agree more , stopped listening to MBW recently too. Rene was the only bright spot on the show. Can't listen to Leo anymore.

I have listened to MBW since the days of Scott Bourne and Merlin Mann. However I never listen anymore. Leo's one sided Apple bashing is way to much. Compare this to how he is on TWiG or even Windows Weekly. I actually listen more to that show because Paul Thurrot and Mary-Jo now the subject and can discuss the news without Leo destroying the show.

I think Leo should quit MBW and hand it over to Rene. I think maybe then you could get interesting guest like Gruber, Arment or Siracusa.

Leo intro'ed the last episode saying "no google" then proceeded to talk at length about Moto X (last I heard was, wait for it, made by Google and runs Android). I do not care that related topics and products are discussed if they are relevant but Leo's passive aggressive distain for Apple's direction and his obsessive love for Android is too obvious to ignore. Claiming the esoteric "I am just being a journalist" was a pathetic excuse...

My suggestion is that Leo recuse himself from MBW or decide what kind of fanboy he wants to be... if it is "all the above" (everything) them maybe he should just be the host of This Week in Tech. He does a great job on Security Now btw so maybe he just needs to decide how to be impartial and drop the passive aggressive attitude ("Oh I was just kidding...").
