Apple TV: Everything you need to know

Everything you need to know about Apple's Apple TV set top box, including movie and

The 3rd generation Apple TV launched in March of 2012 and supports 1080p video. Thanks to a recent software update, it also now supported Bluetooth keyboards. Other than that, it's very similar to the 2nd Generation Apple TV, which launched in September of 2010 and supported only 720p video.

The tiny box packs a wallop, however, with easy HDMI connectivity for your living room LCD or Plasma HD TV, and super simple, rent-only access to the iTunes Store, streaming-only access to your home iTunes library, and Internet access to podcasts, YouTube, Netflix, and other "channels" including news and sports like MLB. With AirPlay you can also stream media and mirror the screen right from your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad!

Apple not buying Sony, Facebook, Disney, AT&T, Google, Australia, etc.

Not to get in the way of any analyst/speculator/tabloid fed interweb crazy, but Apple probably isn't buying Sony, Facebook, or Disney, or Google, AT&T, or the continent of Australia for that matter.

While there could be some interesting manufacturing, social networking, and studio plays there (or just a lot of land for a really huge data center), Apple is about less, not more. After all the success Steve Jobs and Apple have had in simplifying and clarifying their products and production, in spending less on R&D and earning more on profits than pretty much anyone in the industry, would they really frak it all up just to stick fruit logo on a PS3 or cute cartoon mouse on an iPhone?

Dev-Team releases PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X [Jailbreak]

Here it is, PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X, and it's good to go for Apple TV (2010), iPad 3.2.2, iPod touch (2010), iPod touch (2009), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G.

PwnageTool allows you to restore to a custom IPSW file. For instance, you can restore to a pre-jailbroken firmware while simultaneously maintaining your current baseband (and thus your ultrasn0w carrier unlock). You can also add whatever packages you want in the “Expert” mode of Pwnage

Apple TV is obviously a big addition here:

Sony Google TV vs Apple TV remotes

Sony's Google TV remote (left) as compared to Apple TV's remote (right) help make manifest just how different these products will be, and they're just two of the competitors poised to battle it out for next generation rights to your living room this holiday season.

Since Google's UI will be more search based and Apple's is more browsing based, is it right tool for right job? Or will we all be using our Android and iOS devices to control our fancy TV boxes anyway, so who cares what default hardware remote ships in the box?

More buttons than a NASA console or fewer than a classic iPod, which do you prefer?

UPDATED: Apple TV (2010) bug lets you watch iTunes rentals for 30 days?

Rent a movie from iTunes on Windows or Mac and stream it to your new Apple TV (2010) and it never starts Hollywood's 24h-48h countdown, which means you have 30 days to enjoy them as much as you want. Here's the steps as MacRumors outlines them:

We've successfully tested this procedure on latest iTunes (thanks to forum user TheBritishBloke), and it works (at least in the short term as the new Apple TV hasn't been out for 30 days):

A5 chip in AppleTV! Wow, just wow! My mid-2012 AppleTV is fast and reliable as it is. Why would it need anymore power than that??? (the billion dollar question)
