Rumor: Discounted Apple TV 2 leads to Apple TV 3 speculation

Some major retailers seem to be selling the Apple TV 2 at a discount, leading 9to5Mac and TechCrunch to speculate a new model may be incoming and soon.
It's also being tagged as the 2010 Apple TV, leading to further speculation a 2011 model is nigh, though I think the Apple TV 2 has been referred to as Apple TV (2010) almost from launch to differentiate it from the original, non-iOS model.
If there is a new Apple TV in the works, here's hoping it gets an Apple A5 chipset for easy 1080p handling. (And no, there's no expectation of Siri so let's not anyone start going pre-emptively nuts, okay?)
Either way, if you want a cheap(er) gift for the holidays, head on over and grab a $89 Apple TV on Amazon while you can.

Guess Apple will do the same next (Black) Friday...
I really hope it does have Siri, it's me of the reasons I'm waking for the 3rd gen rather than jump on the current gen.
Get me a beer bitch! Hahaha.
It's called a holiday discount to spur sales. Nothing more. There won't be a new Apple TV unit released before 2012. Having said that, I just picked one up at Amazon to give to a family member for a Christmas gift, it's a great little item for the price.
Ahhh of course this happens cause i just bought one of these last week
My Internet barely handles 720p consistently. Why do I need 1080p? If I upgrade my Internet sure, but everything I have on iTunes from Digital Copies isn't even HD, and Netflix comes out perfect for me. Until they get an Apple TV service with free content, there is no reason for me to upgrade from my Apple TV 2, Im happy with mine.
So you can stream 1080p content from computers in the house, at least until some of the ISPs get their acts together (not holding my breath in N.A.).
There is a simpler explanation. Perhaps Apple TV 2 sales have not been all that great.
A couple things I'm hoping for (but doubt) is a VGA (or some kind of analog output) and a wifi 'hub' to make it more friendly to being used with an iPad or iPhone running Keynote (or mirroring, etc.). That way, one could just take an iPhone and AppleTV and be all set for giving presentations. The reason I doubt it, is that I don't think they are going to take it in that direction, but one can hope. :) (Note: I realize I could take along an Airport Express and a HDMI/VGA converter box, but I'm always looking to take less gadgets along).
I just picked one up today at Best Buy...
I only use my Apple TV to watch YouTube videos. As a UK subscriber when will we have the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5? I don't care about the MLB service. Come on Apple get a move on, you could corner the market if you managed to add those services!
I think that iTunes is convenient if you have Apple devices but I find paying for content individually cumbersome and expensive. If I want to do that on occasion there are plenty of current movies available to watch on dishonline.com which I prefer because there is plenty of free content I don’t even have to log onto my employee account to watch. I use dishonline.com on the go but I also watch on my TV at home and it works great. I can search for things to watch on there but it gives me results for my DISH TV channels too so I can set a DVR timer if I want to. Apple is a little behind the rest of the competition though and they’ll have to work hard to catch up.
Very great post. I simply stumbled upon your weblog and wished to say that I have really enjoyed surfing around your weblog posts. After all I will be subscribing on your feed and I'm hoping you write again soon!
I could probably catch the last half hour
