iPod touch 4 parts hint at front FaceTime camera?

145719-ipodtouch4a_500

We just saw a case that hinted at a new rear camera on iPod touch 4, now images from a parts supplier show what looks like a front, FaceTime camera hole.

this part is clearly marked as an Apple part "Apple (c) 2010". This stamp is visible in the full resolution image. The part is also stamped with April 29, 2010, indicating that the build date is relatively recent.

At WWDC 2010, Steve Jobs did say 10,000 FaceTime devices, not iPhones specifically, and we've seen how Apple/iTunes IDs instead of phone numbers could be used to connect the video calls, so the pieces do seem to be falling into place...

Do you want an iPod touch 4 with both a rear and front facing camera?

iPod touch 4 parts hint at front FaceTime camera?

Yes, of course I want the new iPod touches to have a front facing camera.
Think about how many people have iPod touches, it makes the FaceTime feature so much more accessible to so many more people. I have an iPhone 4, but none of my friends do so the feature is basically worthless to me.

I really hope the next gen iPod Touch has both a front and back facing camera. If it doesn't, i'm not buying it.

Any camera would be nice. Just to add photos to your contacts without adding photos via a computer. A camera would open up the potential to camera apps.

I'm less concerned about FaceTime and the camera than storage capacity for the next iPod Touch. If Apple ships one with 128gb capacity, I jump in it.

How is that not just the hole in the plate for the ambient light sensor, the same ambient light sensor that has been in the iPod Touch forever?

Lots of typos in this post, ever heard of spell check? Steve Jobs said 10,000,000 FaceTime devices by years end not 10,000, they got that in the first 5 minutes of the iPhone 4 release. Many people have hinted that FaceTime is possible by using your e-mail address to make calls. Like I said in the other post, the one with the fake mock-up. I purchased an iPod Touch 3G in January and I plan on buying this one and selling my current one to a friend for about half price as long as it comes with all the iPhone 4 stuff. I want the iPhone 4 style, front-facing camera, 5MP back camera, Retina display and all the other bells and whistles without the 3G support.

@Erik an iPod touch isn't deep enough to support a 5 or 8mp lens. 3mp seems to be the current upper limit given the case size.

WOW i was about to purchase one for my mom. Now i'll hold off untill next month.
P.S Love the new Look.

If it has FaceTime, it will also have a camera on the back. And a built-in microphone. Now, more than ever, the iPod Touch will be the iPhone without (half of!!) the phone.

@Boots Yeah it does more things like 3G service from Gayt&t, NO THANK YOU. I use them for my cellphone service and I hate it, I am so ready to switch over but I have to wait until March or April 2011, damn contracts. I own an iPod Touch 3G and purchased it in January and if these rumors end up being true I plan on purchasing the next gen. If this ends up being true the only thing setting the two apart would be the phone and 3G service, so there isn't much setting the two apart.

I hope it's got the same camera(s) as iPhone 4. The rear camera on that is basically a decent point-and-shoot quality. And more options for FaceTime is a good move.

@Rahat maini To start with, sort your freaky name out. Secondly, light sensors are not that big.. Are you demented?

@Mitchell Ok then where does the ambient sensor hole go then if the front facing camera goes there? They are at the exact same spot. Coincedence? I don't think so Ms.Mitchell

Really does look like a FaceTime camera hole on the front. If so, it will act as the ambient light sensor. MacBooks use their web cams as ambient light sensors.
But will it be available in white?

I would honestly buy a iPod Touch while having an iPhone 3GS for the face time and shift all my music to a 64GB iPod T ... i need 64 GB anyways...
I'll reduce my iPhone as a phone... even though it cant even do that correctly ( for now )

Go outside with an itouch and look at the purple dot on the top middle. They can't put a rear and front camera in the same place on opposite sides. What about that black wifi reciever on the back?
