Daily Tip: How to add Settings shortcuts to your home screen

Wondering how to quickly and easily add icons to your Home Screen that will take you to frequently used Settings like Brightness, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi? Developer Jeff Broderick has created profiles that do just that!

Follow along to learn how to get them!

  1. From your iPhone, visit brdrck.me/settings/
  2. Tap the setting you wish you add to your homescreen
  3. If there is more than one icon option, tap the one you wish to have. Then tap Install [setting] Shortcut.
  4. This will open the Install Profile Page. Tap Install.
  5. A popup will appear warning you the the profile is unsigned. If you're ok with that (we are!), tap Install Now.
  6. When the profile is done installing, tap Done.
  7. This will bring you back to brdrck's website.
  8. Tap the home button to find the icon on your home page.

Now when you tap on your new icon, you will see a quick flash of brdrck's website before being taken to that specific setting in the Settings app.

Personally, I only installed the Brightness setting and have that sitting on my first page. I've been dying for quick access to my Brightness slider for many years. If you want all of the shortcuts, you may want to add them all to a folder on your first page for quick access.

Bonus Tip: If you desire more than these 11 settings, check out godlaya. The website is mostly in German, but you can install a bundle of 23 settings profiles in English.

eh .... i HATE that i need to go to a website first to get to the next screen. Not worth it. smart .. but not worth it. ...

Curious? says:

Is this safe or am I exposing myself to potential security issues? Thanks in advance.

I saw this in your twitter feed and was immediately stoked. Great addition. And I assume no info is taken because its likely just taking you to a local file for that settings page via safari

Very cool. Thanks for the tip!

In Brazil we are doing this quite some time now.
"Blog do Iphone", a brazilian blog on iOS devices, has developed and published a similar profile 10 days ago http://blogdoiphone.com/2011/11/atalhos/

didnt work for me? is it because i'm in the UK?

Nee_m_d says:

This is just what i needed ! Very useful to quickly switch on/off bluetooth when getting in/out of the car. Thanks!

This does not work, When I click the icon, I get the response "cannot open page-safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid." I get the same window no matter which icon I select. This happens with IconProject also. Do I need to have iOS5 to make it work?

rajkumr says:

Actually you can add the entire settings page as an web app and select it to open the shortcuts page!
The cool thing is when you select any of the individual settings icon, you will be taken there directly without safari popping up first!
Plus u don't need to install a bunch of profiles!!!
Cheers!

Airplane toggle works, but the brightness one just opens the settings app.
iPad 1 iOS 5.01. Does it work for you?

Gregz0r says:

Great find! This one had much better icons than a similar solution I found a few days ago.
This'll do until an untethered jailbreak turns up and I can install Intellisxreen X.

This is so awesome! Thanks TiPb! This helped so much! :D

Doesn't work on 4.3.5...

Mbartel500 says:

If you're still on 4.3.5 don't bother with this. It won't work

Tom says:

I just installed iOS 5.1 and I get the message the address is invalid. I deleted the app, reinstalled it and got the same result. I assume increased security settings on 5.1 is the problem. Too bad, because I enjoyed it's ease and convenience.
