HBO GO updated with support for AirPlay multitasking and Game of Thrones extras

HBO GO for both iPhone and iPad has been updated with enhanced interactive features for Game of Thrones fans as well as multitasking capabilities for AirPlay. If you're an HBO GO user, this basically means you'll now have the ability to AirPlay content directly from the HBO GO app and it will remain streaming in the background until you stop playback.

You'll obviously need to be an HBO subscriber in order to access content such as full episodes and to take advantage of streaming full episodes. If you already use the app or have an HBO subscription, hit the link below to download the update now.

Help and how to editor for iMore. I can take apart an iPhone in less than 6 minutes. I also like coffee and Harry Potter more than anyone really should.

Finally fixed every time you quit the app or was interrupted with a phone call you would have to start watching from the beginning and that was annoying. Good to also see AirPlay in the background support as well.

I was hoping that a digital copy of Winds of Winter would be included in the app. I guess that means that I'll have to wait another 6 years for the book like everyone else.

Talk about flipping the script.

At first, the (Comcast) Xfinity app allowed us to have AirPlay (mirroring) options with HBO content, when the HBO Go app was barely functional. Now HBO Go even has background support (ie. true AirPlay) and the Xfinity Remote app has been replaced by the Xfinity Player app, which doesn't work worth a damn and never has. Check its reviews.

That iOS device-to-Apple tv functionality was my last reason to resist cutting the cord. JUST last night, we were talking about which Internet-only plan to choose. This news kinda helps, but I'm not on iOS 6.x and don't plan to be. So, we will see how that goes.

I have to say, though, this makes me wonder what owners of the original iPad are going to do since 6.x isn't an option (or even advisable if it were).

Airplay was much needed. Great access through the app. Now we just need HBO service to be untethered from cable providers.
