iOS 4.2 features: AirPrint for iPhone, iPad goes wireless but not network

Just like AirPlay, AirPrint is a flagship feature of iOS 4.2 that initially offered more functionality than Apple finally delivered, yet despite arriving without network printing support, if you have one of the few supported HP printers it does indeed feel like the future.

Netflix on Apple TV "Recently Watched", "Suggested for You", and "Currently Unavailable" glitches?

Netflix on Apple TV "Recently Watched", "Suggested for You", and "Currently Unavailable" glitches?

I turned on my Apple TV (2010) tonight, went to Netflix to continue a show, clicked on Recently Watched, and was greeted with a blank screen. I hit menu to go back up a level and suddenly there was a different menu devoid of the Recently Watched (and Suggest for You) options. I went up a level again, went back down, and the personalized menu was back, but Recently Watched still wouldn't work. I tried a third time only to find a "Netflix is currently unavailable" screen pop up. Menu up and down and Netflix was suddenly available again. So what's going on with that?

iPod nano watches get seriously cool with TikTok and LunaTik

iPod nano watches get seriously cool with TikTok and LunaTik

Take an iPod nano that's just begging to be worn as a watch and add renown Nike designer Scott Wilson and you get the TikTok and LunaTik, a truly sweet project on KickStarter.

TikTok and LunaTik transform the iPod Nano into the world's coolest multi-touch watches. The idea to use the Nano as a watch was an obvious one ever since the product was announced. But we wanted to create a collection that was well designed, engineered and manufactured from premium materials and that complemented the impeccable quality of Apple products. Not just clipped on a cheap strap as an afterthought. We wanted to create a product that your friends and strangers would stop you and ask "WTF is that??? And where can I get one?!"

The only issue I have with the Nano watch is that if you want to listen to music with the watch you need to get longer headphones. Either way this watch is very cool.

If you like them you can pledge your support -- and get in on the pre-order -- now via the link below. I'm not even going to lie, I'm waiting on one of each already!

We recently posted that the TiPb Readers Choice Award-winning Angry Birds would be getting a major update this holiday season, with the introduction of many new levels and inclusion of the in-app purchase, "Mighty Eagle". First that, now Christmas? Sounds like Angry Birds fans will have a lot to enjoy this holiday season.

Rage HD for iPad- app review

Rage HD for iPad- app review

YouTube Link

When I saw John Carmack show off Rage on the iPhone a few months back, I was rather excited. The promise of real console-like graphics were in our grasp. Then, the game finally came out and I was initially blown away, but then...

Rage HD on iPad is set in a post-apocalyptic future. Typical of these types of games where you play a contestant out to earn money by defeating mutants. The game is set in a first-person shooter (FPS) perspective, but it is on rails. This means the game "moves" for you and you are only allowed to maneuver the cursor on screen at any given time. This is okay, as the games visuals are amazing and this style of game worked really well for Doom Resurrection on iPhone.

iBooks for iPad, iPhone to be updated with "Collections", printing, and PDF emailing?

According to some leaked screenshots and descriptions, Apple's iBooks app for iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone will be getting an update in the near future that includes "collections", along with PDF printing and emailing.

Collections are similar to folders. You will be able to make groups of books and PDF's that are accessible via the new "collections" button as well as from your bookshelf. User-created collections are completely customizable, but the the two default collections, Books and PDF's, are not.

Do you want BBM on your iPhone?

Every WWDC keynote we've joked that Mike Lazaridis from BlackBerry maker RIM would surprise everyone by joining Steve Jobs on stage to announce BlackBerry Connect and BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) for iPhone. Then we laugh and marvel out our new copy and paste, multitasking, or whatever Apple chooses to invent that year.

Our sibling site CrackBerry.com has put the whole BBM on iOS (and every other platform) issue right back on their front page, however, with Kevin asking the question:

AirVideoEnabler brings Airplay to ALL apps! [Jailbreak]

AirVideoEnabler brings Airplay to ALL apps! [Jailbreak]

With Apple only giving us a very limited version of AirPlay video streaming, the Jailbreak community has picked up the slack with AirVideoEnabler, a simple tweak that brings AirPlay video to all apps.

After Erica Sadun and Steven Troughton-Smith ">showed what was required to add AirPlay capability to 3rd party apps, a developer going by Zone-MR has created a Jailbreak hack which is available now on Cydia. While only available on a private repo (http://cydia.zone-mr.net) it will not be long before it is available on other repos as well.

Video after the break. Is the jailbreak community making it difficult for you to stay pure? Leave us a comment below!

iOS 4.2 features: Improved Safari web browser

iOS 4.2 features: Improved Safari web browser

While AirPrint and AirPlay integration, and Find in Page are the big user-facing features new to iOS 4.2 Safari, MobileXWeb points out that Apple also snuck in a few improvements under the hood:

  • Accelerometer & Gyroscope support through the DeviceOrientation API
  • WebSockets API from HTML5
  • Updated HTML 5 Form Support
  • Partial XHR-2 Support
  • New JavaScript data types
  • New DOM events
  • Enhanced SVG and Canvas support

If you are a developer let us know how useful these additions will be to your Web Apps. If you're not a developer that might look like mumbo jumbo to you but rest assured it means more better web applications could be coming your way soon, and since Apple uses Safari's WebKit to render everything from iTunes to App Store or iAd to Apple.com, and Google uses it Gmail and pretty much all their sites, there's potential for a lot more, lot better content coming our way.

Interested in making one of those custom website icons that show up on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad when you hit "Add to Homescreen"? A cool icon will make visitors want to add a WebClip of your site to their home screens. They'll show it to their friends, their friends will also add WebClips of your site, and your site will zoom up the Google Page ranks. (Hey, every little bit helps!). Thanks to SockRolid from the forums, we'll show you how after the break!
